This week, I had the opportunity to work with teachers at the Garden State Google Summit. During one of my sessions on creating animations using Google Slides, I had one teacher strike up a conversation about other ways to use Google Slides in their classroom.
Google Slides is one of the most versatile tools for users of the G Suite applications. There are in fact hundreds of ways that you can use Slides outside of the traditional presentation that we have all come used to.
During the conversation, we discussed ways of using Google Slides to create publishable items. The teacher explained to me that they just finished doing a project where they created a paper-based Tri-fold Brochure to showcase something happening in their curriculum. Where this was a fun and engaging activity, the teacher was looking for something a bit more simple to do. Enter … Google Slides!
Setting Up Your Tri-fold Brochure Template
As stated earlier, Google Slides can be used in a variety of ways. Using Slides to create a Tri-fold Brochure is actually quite easy. All you have to do is follow a few simple steps to get your slide layout lined up to your final project.
The first thing you want to do is adjust your page layout. You can do this by selecting File - Page Setup and in the drop-down, adjust to the “custom” 11x8.5 size. This will create a canvas that fits the size of a printed sheet of paper.
Finding the Fold
The next step is to figure out where the “fold” will be once you print out your brochure. By setting up temporary guidelines, you will be sure to create your content blocks in the right spot.
One advantage of creating a Google Slides brochure is that you can add anything you wish onto your project. For example, you can click on Insert - Diagram to insert a variety of charts, timelines, pricing boxes or other fancy items to create dynamic looking informational pamphlets.
Luckily for you, you don’t have to go through all of the steps needed to create your own Tri-fold brochure. Simply sign up for the TeacherCast insiders program and you will have your very own brochure template emailed directly to you.
