How to archive and restore your @Schoology courses to prepare for the upcoming school year
Last week, we shared a post on 5 things you can do with Schoology to close out your current year and get ready for next. One of the things we mentioned was archiving your courses.
In this post, we will go over this in a little more detail.
When the school year ends and you are done with your courses, it is a good idea to archive them. Archiving . . .
- Removes/hides the course from the “Courses” drop-down menu (making it easier and cleaner to navigate through your list).
- Allows you to copy or save materials to new courses or your resources.
- Still shows all students who were part of that course as well as the gradebook (great for verification purposes)
To archive a course:
- Click the “Courses” drop-down at the top of your navigation bar.
- Click “see all”.
- Then click the gear icon next to the course you want to archive.
- And click “Archive Section”.
- A popup window will appear.
- Click “submit”.
For courses established with a grading period and managed by the district, the courses will most likely be set to archive automatically once the end of the school year is confirmed.
To access a previously archived course:
- Click the “Courses” drop-down at the top of your navigation bar.
- Click “see all”.
- Then click on the “archived” button beside “current”.
- Find the course you want to access.
- Click the section name/title.
To restore a course:
- Click the “Courses” drop-down at the top of your navigation bar.
- Click “see all”.
- Then click on the “archived” button beside “current”.
- Find the course you want to access.
- Click the “gear” icon next to the section name/title.
- A popup window will appear.
- Click “restore section”.
For courses established with a grading period and managed by the district, you will be unable to restore the course on your own.
Archiving old courses is great for teachers who want to reuse materials and stay organized from year-to-year.
Why should school districts adopt Schoology as their LMS?
For the last 3 years, I have had the privilege of leading my school district’s digital transformation using Schoology. Not only is a learning management system like Schoology a great way to help manage the classroom but it is also the perfect way to deliver highly engaging and collaborative digital learning.
